The U.S. Senate tonight passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government to November 17 by a vote of 88-9. The CR includes an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to the same date. The House passed the bill earlier in the day, so the bill now goes to the president to be signed into law, which he is expected to do before midnight.
The action today by Congress comes after weeks of failed attempts to agree on a bill to fund the federal government. Going forward, PIA will continue to urge an extension of the NFIP for as long as possible to avoid a future potential lapse.
