Senator Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska) is on her second term in the Senate where she was first elected in 2012 after serving in the state legislature. She spent 8 years in the state legislature where she chaired the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee and was a member of several others. Before her stint in the state legislature, Fischer was a cattle rancher with her husband and has over 40 years of experience with agriculture producers and different rural and economic development groups across Nebraska. Sen. Fischer graduated with an education degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Why She’s Important to Agents
Sen. Fischer currently serves in the 117th Congress on the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, Sen. Fischer’s role on this committee gives her major influence over issues in the Farm bill, and most notable for agents, the federal crop insurance program. She has been a champion of agricultural policy issues and will play a key role as the Farm Bill is reauthorized in 2023.
