Senate Passes NFIP Extension to December 16

As reported earlier this week, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is set to expire at 11:59pm September 30 unless Congress extends it. The authority to fund the federal government also must be extended by tomorrow as well.

This afternoon, the Senate passed a short-term government funding bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), to December 16 by a vote of 72-25. An extension of the NFIP was included in the CR, also to December 16.

The measure now heads to the House, which needs to pass it before 11:59pm tomorrow, September 30, to prevent a shutdown of the federal government and a lapse of the NFIP.
