In 2021, the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) will build upon our 2020 legislative victories and continue to advocate for professional independent insurance agents. With a new administration in office and Democrats holding a slight majority in both chambers of Congress, PIA will continue its nonstop advocacy efforts on behalf of professional insurance agents by promoting our 2021 legislative priorities, a snapshot of which can be found here.
While COVID-19 small business relief, reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), protection of agent commissions for the sale of crop insurance, creation of a safe harbor for agents who sell insurance to cannabis-related businesses, defense of the state insurance regulatory system, and repeal of the passthrough tax deduction’s sunset provision are our top legislative priorities, PIA is always working to promote the needs of independent agents, wherever those needs take us.
PIA is already actively engaging on many of these issues with the 117th Congress, and our issues of focus for PIA Advocacy Day will include several of these issues. PIA’s 2021 Advocacy Day will be held virtually on Wednesday May 12, 2021 with information to be released shortly. We plan to issue a more detailed report on our Advocacy Day issues of focus closer to that date.
