On July 19th, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL) and Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) announced the launch of the bipartisan Crop Insurance Caucus. The purpose of the Caucus is to educate Members of Congress and their staff on the importance of the federal crop insurance program as an integral part of our farm safety net.
The Caucus will hold quarterly educational briefings for Members of Congress and their staff to help them better understand and appreciate the program, and to keep them updated on issues relating to crop insurance. The goal is to build strong bipartisan support for this important program.
PIA National has long been a leading advocate for the federal crop insurance program on Capitol Hill, successfully lobbying for the passage of a Farm Bill in December 2018 with no cuts to crop insurance. PIA National has also strongly opposed President Trump’s yearly budget requests, each of which has proposed cuts to crop insurance.
PIA National looks forward to working with Congresswoman Bustos, Congressman Thompson, and the other members of the Crop Insurance Caucus in their efforts to help Members of Congress and their staff to better understand the federal crop insurance program and to recognize the essential role independent insurance agents play in the delivery of the program.
