FLS Registration Now Open!
Each year, PIA agents from around the country come to Washington, D.C. to attend PIA National’s annual congressional fly-in known as the Federal Legislative Summit, or FLS.
The FLS is your opportunity to represent the independent agent profession on issues that impact your business. While the government relations staff at PIA National is your year-round advocate in the halls of Congress, the FLS gives policymakers and their staffs a chance to hear directly from you, their constituents. 2019 is an especially great year to attend the FLS because there are so many new members of the House of Representatives and Senate, and they all need to be brought up to speed on the issues important to PIA agents.
The first day of the FLS, Tuesday, April 2nd, begins with an afternoon issue briefing and workshop conducted by the PIA National government relations staff. The next day, Wednesday, April 3rd, PIA members head to Capitol Hill to meet with your elected representatives. And in between are receptions and other opportunities to get to know your fellow PIA members better.
Make Your Priorities Their Priorities
This advocacy leads to results. In recent years at the FLS, PIA members successfully advocated for providing tax relief for agency owners; introducing legislation to repeal the Federal Insurance Office; delaying the implementation of the harmful Cadillac tax on some employer-sponsored healthcare plans; ensuring a strong crop insurance program in the 2018 Farm Bill; and pushing back on efforts to cut agent commissions for selling policies through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
At this year’s FLS, PIA members will continue to build on these successes by once again advocating to repeal the Federal Insurance Office (FIO), to protect the vital role that independent agents play in delivering federally-backed crop and flood insurance, and to safeguard the employer-sponsored healthcare system.
While most U.S. House members and Senators have their constituents’ interests at heart, they don’t know your business. Policymakers listen to those who show up and represent their profession.
Registration for the FLS is now open. Find the registration form here or contact your PIA affiliate. Completed registration forms can be sent to Roxanne Johnson at roxannejo@pianet.org. For more information about the FLS, visit www.piafls.com.
