Member Spotlight: Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI)

Scott Fitzgerald was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 to represent the 5th Congressional District of Wisconsin. Prior to his election to the United States Congress, Rep. Fitzgerald was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, where he served in several leadership roles, including majority leader. Rep. Fitzgerald was also a member of the US Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonial in 2009.

Why He’s Important to Agents:

Rep. Fitzgerald serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. This position gives Rep. Fitzgerald influence over many PIA Priorities, including the reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the creation of cannabis safe harbor for independent agents, and of the Federal Insurance Office (FIO). Recently, Rep. Fitzgerald introduced legislation to strip the FIO of its subpoena power, perhaps the FIO’s most powerful potential domestic tool. PIA strongly supports this legislation.

PIA will continue to work with Rep. Fitzgerald to curtail the FIO’s authority.
